Several Departments are Hiring throughout VA!

Richmond FD Promotes Six to Battalion Chief Including the First Female BC’s – On November 4, Richmond Fire and Emergency Services held promotions for six Captains that were promoted to Battalion Chief. For the first time in the department’s history, we have promoted two females who have come thru the ranks.

Yancey fire station responding to more calls - FISHERSVILLE — The beleaguered Fishersville volunteer fire company that Augusta County shored up because of a low insurance rating has hardly missed a call since. Augusta County has recorded just one “no response” for the Preston L. Yancey Fire Company in the past two months, said County Fire Chief Carson Holloway.

Firefighters Can’t Determine Cause in Elkton Barn Fire – Firefighters say they can’t determine how a barn fire began on Naked Creek Road in Elkton. They also don’t know who owns the property where the barn was located. Emergency crews were called the scene just after 1 a.m. Friday.

Fire heavily damages South Boston house - Fire heavily damaged this house at 103 E. Forest Trail, South Boston, early Wednesday morning. South Boston fire officials have not determined the cause of the fire that resulted in an estimated $40,000 in damages. Fire Destroys An Apartment Building In Scott County, Virginia

Firefighters seek to keep parity with police pay – Lynchburg’s firefighters are mobilizing in the face of growing evidence that City Council is leaning toward giving pay raises to police officers that would not be offered to other employees. The city has historically observed pay parity between its police and fire departments, but council has recently indicated it would be willing to break with that tradition in light of the higher turnover seen among police officers.

Fire training minus the fire – You saw front-page information in last week’s edition of the Village News about the destruction of the old and construction of the new on the campus of Virginia State University. As you travel from Chesterfield Avenue to East River Road by way of the campus, you can see many houses that have been purchased by the university and are slated to be torn down in the near future.

Part-time firefighters to be temporarily added – FRONT ROYAL — The Warren County Board of Supervisors approved an immediate staffing plan Wednesday that will temporarily add four part-time firefighter positions as the Department of Fire and Rescue Services continues to seek ways to address its volunteer shortage.
